Last Day for the Maliboomer

Maliboomer shoots two carrages at Night. Taken...

For those of you who live near Disneyland or are currently visiting, you may want to take a ride on the Maliboomer at Disney California Adventure sometime today because this attraction will be moving into yesterland. Today is it’s final operating day.

I was never really a big fan of this attraction as it offered really little in theming. Also, you can go on the same attraction at almost any other theme park in the United States. When the Tower of Terror was built in 2004, it made the Maliboomer even more useless because the Tower of Terror added something that the Mailiboomer never had: Theming.

The attraction is slated to begin demolition tomorrow. It’s being torn down as part of Disney’s $1 billion project to completely re-theme the California Adventure. Disney is planning on a 1900s boardwalk theme to Paradise Pier which the Maliboomer does not fit into.

Disney Releases Concept Art of “Newt”

For all of you who have been following the news probably already know that Disney and Pixar have cancelled the film “Newt”. Yesterday Disney released the concept art for the now cancelled film on their Facebook fan page.

I honestly never thought Pixar would do this. I say this because most companies refrain from releasing information about projects what were shelved. I’m sure they shelved this project for good reason, but the artwork created during the project are certainly pieces of work.

Check them out here.

WDW Space Getting Audio?

Disney - Space Mountain Loading (Explored)
Image by Express Monorail via Flickr

According to Screamscape, Disney may possibly be developing some type of audio system for Space Mountain at Walt Disney World. During the refurbishment last year, people were hoping that Disney would finally incorporate a soundtrack by using new attraction vehicles with sound systems. Of course, that didn’t happen. I’ve heard excuses from the track couldn’t handle the added weight from the audio systems to budget cuts. In the update, Screamscape stated that this sound system will probably be along the track as opposed to being on the actual ride vehicles.

I think that they may do something along the lines of the Peoplemover where there are speakers along the track and the speakers are used as the ride vehicles passes by. The only problem with this system on space is that the track is probably much longer and the ride vehicles go considerably faster, therefore it might be hard to sync the music with the passing ride vehicles.

A View From the Mark Twain’s Pilot House

Late tonight I was browsing various Disney blogs and I found this terrific blog post with panoramic photos of the views you get from the Mark Twain’s pilot house. The pilot house on the Mark Twain is known to have one of the best views of Disneyland.

Mickey’s Soundsational Parade Coming to Disneyland in 2011!

Disney has just announced a new parade that will be coming to Disneyland in 2011. In the recent concept art released from Disney, there will be a total of nine floats and two dozen Disney characters. The parade will replace the current “Celebrate! a Street Party” which made its debut at Disneyland in March 2009.

According to the Disney Parks Blog:

” There are a whole lot of exciting elements for the new parade that can’t be captured in this artwork:

  • The parade is an explosive music festival with thrilling rhythms and bold percussion that will bring to life some of the most beloved melodies from Disney films.
  • Live musicians will amplify the fun. Mickey Mouse and some of your favorite Disney characters will play live and will encourage members of the crowd to join a giant jam session.
  • Lively dancers will stomp out rhythms as a syncopated drum line, twinkling cymbals, steel drums and more entertain guests with sensational sounds!

The parade promises to be the most foot-stomping, infectious festival of music you’ve ever seen — or heard! I’ve heard it’s “soundsational!”

I think that this parade will be a big winner. Unlike many people, I didn’t find these loud obnoxious Celebrate parades very appealing. It will be nice to actually have some type of unique, non-Pixar parade for once. The only disastrous part of this is that it won’t be coming to Walt Disney World for quite some time. I do know that Walt Disney World will be getting it because they pretty much get parades that have already ran at Disneyland.

Looks good, but I will wait until I actually see it before I make any real opinions.

Good News WDW: Main Street Electrical Parade is Staying

Pete & Elliott

Good news for folks planning to visit Walt Disney World within the next couple of months: The Main Street Electrical Parade is staying a little while more. Announced on the Disney Parks Blog today, the Main Street Electrical Parade will continue after the Summer Nightastic promotional period ends on August 14th. Some hardcore fans at Disneyland are furious about this because this means that they have to live without the parade for a longer amount of time. I’m not sure whether or not I agree with them. I love the Main Street Electrical Parade myself but I don’t necessarily believe that it should stay in one location. Share the love people, share the love.
